11 January 2005 – European Commission Opens ICT Accessibility Consultation
The European Commission launched a public consultation yesterday on how best to make ICT products and services more accessible to the widest number of people, including disabled and elderly people. This is an important step towards removing the technical challenges and difficulties experienced by some when trying to use electronic products or services such as computers, mobile phones or the Internet.
The consultation focuses on three key areas in which the EU could promote eAccessibility: public procurement, certification, and the use of legislation. It is hoped that responses will spur greater possibility for clearer legislation harmonised across the EU.
More information can be found in the Commission's Press Release on the eAccessibility consultation.
