27 February 2006 – Guide to Good Practice in Commissioning Accessible Websites

After nearly a year in the works, the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) have announced a launch date for their Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 78, “Guide to Good Practice in Commissioning Accessible Websites”. PAS 78 is to be released at a launch event in London on March 8th, 2006.

Following the DRC's formal investigation into the accessibility of websites, reported in 2004, the DRC commissioned BSI to develop formal guidance on the subject of website accessibility. The document will focus on providing guidance to website owners and those commissioning websites, informing them of their obligations and explaining the advantages of following best practices in website accessibility.
